Now, when I set out to achieve this goal, I originally thought that I would physically attend a class. But while I was researching my options, I discovered this whole, brave, new world out there in the form of free online education from many large, well-known universities and institutions from around the globe. Have you seen Open Universities Australia advertised? Well, imagine this in a totally free, self-paced form. Pick and choose what you want to study, when you want to study and where you want to study… it's a dream for a self-confessed nerd like me!!
And of course, now I'm feeling incredibly hooked! I still have tabs open in my browser of other free online courses I want to dip my toe into - ways to improve my job search skills and career development, theories on human communication, and discovering the ritual behind patient assessment and examination. There is an abundance of knowledge awaiting for me to engulf and digest!
If you are feeling inspired to learn something new, here are a few links to get you started:
- https://www.khanacademy.org - Khan Academy has an incredible volume of video lectures and preparatory courses at all different education levels
- http://ocw.mit.edu/index.htm - Massaschusetts Institute of Technology offer a large volume of the courses they teach their undergraduate and postgraduate students online and for free (and have the amazing "Design your life" topic I'm raving about above)
- http://www.saylor.org - Saylor Academy structure their online courses similar to those universities that offer distance education, even with interactive discussion forums for other students/interested parties undertaking their topics
With all this new found knowledge in my head, I think it is time for me to have a nap to try and process it all!! Good luck with your own pursuit of knowledge!! :)
